Hi,I'm Julianne.
It is so Nice to meet you!
I am a musician, teacher, and painter based in Birmingham, AL.
The first time someone asked me to teach them, I was sixteen. I didn’t plan on becoming a teacher, but ever since then, teaching has followed me wherever I go. Teaching showed up in grad school when I started teaching English through VIPKID. After that, it led me to the University of Alabama, where I taught human development.
These days, teaching is still with me—in my studio, in the community, and in the way I work with people creatively. Whether I’m making music, painting, or guiding others through their own creative process, I feel most like myself when I’m helping someone else tap into their ideas. I didn’t chase teaching—but I’ve come to realize it’s part of who I am.
If you’re curious about working together, I’d love to hear from you!

My Teaching Approach
Having studied both human development and music, I understand that each student is unique. There is no single method of teaching that works for everyone. Because of this, I prioritize getting to know each student and their interests, strengths, and challenges in order to shape my approach to teaching.
I believe students should have a sense of ownership over their learning. Rather than imposing a specific genre or rigid curriculum, I collaborate with students to explore music that is meaningful and engaging to them. This approach fosters motivation, creativity, and a deeper connection to the learning process.
Let me tell you about my student, Pete.
He was 7, and it was really his mom who wanted him to take piano lessons—not Pete. He had a hard time focusing and would often ask how much longer we had left in each lesson. I kept trying to find music that might inspire him, but nothing was sticking.
One day, he told me that over the weekend he and his dad watched Interstellar. From there, everything changed. Pete learned the theme, memorized it, and performed it at his first recital.
That experience reinforced something I deeply believe: it is so important to like the music you play. Pete went from counting down the minutes of his lessons to seeing how many times he could play the Interstellar theme in a single session. He even started teaching his dad to play it!
