I've been trying to think of an idea for small paintings for quite some time now because I find incredible delight in all things mini. When I see something mini, it make me smile and bring my hands clenched in fists under my chin.
Speaking of delight, I've been seeking delight more and more lately, just like Ross Gay told me to on We Can Do Hard Things podcast
And right now I'm honestly delighted in my mini magnet paintings
I decided on landscapes because there are clear rules- like the sky should be the lightest value and vertical objects are usually darker (thanks Chris Fornataro)
I also added gold leaf that I picked up at Alabama Art Supply
Finally, I wanted the piece to be practical. My partner and I buy art frequently and then never hang it because that's like 5 additional steps-- ugh!
I wanted it to be easy to display these little delights, so I glued magnets on the back and WAH LAH!
They are delightful and shiny and small and I'm so PROUD of them.
I am so proud of them that I got a shelf to display my artworks at Shades Mountain Mercantile.
Now it's your turn- what can you find or make that delights you?
